Be Back Soon...

I recently switched my focus from a creative writing blog to the more craft inspired Design DNA.  I get obsessed and dedicate myself to new projects then become bored rather quickly.  I miss the story I left behind but needed this time to clear my head.  I'll check back periodically and will hopefully have new things to share.  I just won't be as active.  Well, at least until I grow tired of my writing again.

Round Sponge Brush Canvas Art

2 white canvases stared me in the face for months.  A Christmas gift miracle needed to happen but the inspiration wouldn't come.  I painted and re painted these suckers three times.

Thank you round sponge brush!
You made my canvas look like I know how to paint!

Skill level: Easy

Supplies: Canvas, round sponge brush,
acrylic paint and spray paint.

Technique: dip the magic round sponge brush in paint and swirl.  I dipped the same brush into several different colors to get the highlighted look (until it became a brown mess)

***I lightly skimmed over the painted canvas with spray paint (white primer and light green) which muted the bright warm colors giving it a more antiqued look.

First Hump Day Top 5

I love playing the "list" game.  In high school, the game was played by passing notes back and forth between periods...

...these days the challenge is conveniently sent via text.  It's fun and helps pass the time and I always love a little Pop Culture/ Hollywood challenge.

Here's a few examples of the list game - feel free to play along.  It's more of a challenge on paper (Google isn't as easily accessible)

Game # 1
The Challenge: Name 5 movies staring Brad Pitt
  1.
  2.
  3.
  4.
  5.
Game # 2
The Challenge: Fill in the blanks
The day time soap, Days of Our Lives, stars a character by the name of Victor Kiriakis who is played by the Father of ___________ who was married to the Actor from Game # 1.

Other then passing the time during long road trips, what is the point of this you ask?  Well, I'm a huge fan of lists and useless facts when it comes to celebrities.  One of my favorite movies of all times is High Fidelity.

Not only because it stars one of my favorite Actors (John Cusack) but because of his character's obsession with top 5 lists.

Example: Top 5 Songs About Death - from the movie High Fidelity

  • "Leader of the Pack" by The Sangri-Las
  • "Dead Man's Curve" by Jan & Dean
  • "Tell Laura I Love Her" by Ray Peterson
  • "One Step Beyond" by Madness
  • "You Can't Always Get What You Want" by The Rolling Stones (disqualified because of its use in The Big Chill)
  • "Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot

Expect my top 5 each week and a fun list game challenge.

Top 5 Songs a little dark and twisty
  • "Mad World" by Gary Jules
  • "In For the Kill" by La Roux
  • "Ramalama" by Roisin Murphy
  • "Breath Me" by Sia
  • "Sweet Dreams" by Emily Browning

2012 Update: No Limits Please

I love faceinhole.com

 Big sister rant.  And go...

As much as I enjoy creating a little something out of nothing or documenting my journey of not completely ruining dinner by trying to follow a new recipe I found on Pinterest, I'm finding myself board with the direction this blog is seeming to take.

This is what I do.  I get really excited about something new, put my all into it and then find myself uninterested shortly there after.  Don't get me wrong, I'll never stop creating and this is an amazing way to log my work and show it off to whoever is interested.

With that being said, I'm not going anywhere.  I just feel the need to broaden my content a bit and wanted to broadcast this little hiccup before confusing anyone with completely random posts.

I don't know what this means entirely...

The moral of the story here is no limitations for me and no surprises for you!

End rant.
